Bicycle Day
From The Maze Where Realities Converge - the psychedelic encyclopedia of reality from The Ultimate Comment
Bicycle Day falls on the nineteenth of April. It is one of The Ultimate Comment's holidays. It commemorates the discovery of LSD by Albert Hofmann in 1943. Hofmann was a chemist working with ergolines and noticed that he felt an 'inebriation' after working with one particular compound. So on the 19th of April, he deliberately ingested some - only 250micrograms, which he guessed would be a tiny dose - to investigate if this chemical was what had caused the inebriation. He soon began to experience Mankind's First Ever Acid Trip. He decided that this was no state for working in a laboratory, and so got on his bicycle to ride home, which is when he really began to tripballs. You can read about his experience in his own words in his book LSD: My Problem Child.
There is a theory that Hofmann, being a cautious and well-trained chemist, could not have accidentally ingested the drug previous to Bicycle Day, so that his "peculiar presentiment" to try it again that day was caused by some supernatural force, driving him towards the discovery of LSD for the sake of expanding human consciousness.
Some people like to take LSD and ride around the place on bicycles on this day.
